DOES ANYONE EVEN READ THEM ANYMORE? - NOPE!

Jack has touched on this topic once before - HONOUR BOARDS.

Jack reckons they are simply a waste of space and an expense that most clubs don't need.

Seriously, why have something on your wall that is rarely looked at and costs a premium to update every year when you could have a screen display showing the same thing for free.

That is the way a lot of clubs are going these days and I'm not just referring to Lawn Bowls.

Get yourself a screen of your choice, plug in a flash drive and away you go. Either set it up to scroll or give bowlers the options to search ....  or do both.

It isn't hard and then you can rip down those old boards and use the wall space for something more practical ..... such as sponsors or advertising space, something that generates income.

Honour boards are so colonial, bring your club into this century.
Yes they have some history and that history can be retained in an appropriate manner that is still available for all and sundry.

Save yourself the expense and …

FACEBOOK WON'T WORK FOR US, NONE OF OUR MEMBERS ARE ON IT!

You're kidding right?
Let's weigh up the Pro's & Con's here:
Facebook's owner alone is worth $67 billion so you do the math on the worth of the company.
Why is it worth this much, Jack will tell you. Because every business worth its weight in common sense uses Facebook. From corner dairies to companies earning millions per day, they all use Facebook. WHY? Because it works!
As Green Grass stated in Jack's previous post,
"Most bowlers today have access to some form of social media,...…... so use it."
(Green Grass is obviously worth their weight in Common Sense! Are You?)
Correct, most bowlers do have access, some may not even know that as yet. As a club secretary or administrator or committee member, this is something you should be pushing and encouraging.
It's FREE and the very moment people start liking your page, you're marketing for free. You don't have to be a guru to work this brilliant piece of software, it's not rocket science.
So, …

A CLUB SECRETARY HAS IT EASY - YEAH RIGHT!

Image
Jack reckons the majority of club members who put their hand up to be secretary have no idea what they are in for!

To make it worse, the majority of outgoing secretaries do not make it easy for the newbie on the block and the incoming secretary is usually dropped in the deep end.

Jack knows of some clubs where the outgoing does assist the new secretary until they have their feet, but most do not!

Jack advises all members .... before you put your hand up, contact the centre to get a rough idea what is involved. It's not as easy as it looks and if a secretary is doing their job right, they will be very busy.

Jack believes that this role should be accompanied with other tasks such as club membership & events and become a paid role. This would go a long way to ensuring the job is done right. Part of the remuneration could be by way of commission from income generated.

But don't get on your high horse and start giving a secretary grief for a job you clearly didn't want.
