WEBSITE, WHAT WEBSITE?

Jack has been taking a look at some of the websites (if you can call them that) that belong to some of the Wellington Centre clubs.

What a shambles! People people people, how can you complain about the downturn in membership when you can’t even update your website on a weekly database. Here is a small list that covers some of the problems with most of the existing websites.

Outdated information, current links that don’t work, incorrect contact details or no contact details, website doesn’t load at all, little to no information on website.
C’mon secretaries, what is happening here? As for you members, why aren’t you holding your executive accountable for such a shocking state of affairs?

Websites these days are more than likely your prospective new members first point of contact. Quite frankly, most people will take one look at some of them and just shake their head and move on to the next club, especially the next generation of bowlers that you so loudly proclaim are your future. Yet here you are giving them very little opportunity to see how well you operate.

However, to those clubs operating an up to date well informed web-site, good on you!
Jack

  1. Most clubs are in recess for the winter. Unlike Bowls Wellington, people are not getting paid to update the website when there is not much happening. Checking out the Bowls Wellington website last week I didn't see much to encourage me either. People in glass houses......

    1. Recess? Our club isn't in recess! What a laugh. So how do your new prospective members or casual bowlers contact you or do they have to wait until you decide it's time to open? Might not be much happening at your club, but that is just a case of lazy. Now is when us clubs should be looking for new members, planning for the season, not just resting on our laurels. Obviously the message struck a chord with you as your website is probably one of those BW mentioned.
As for bowls wellington website, looks great to me. show me your website and explain how it betters. I'm not aware of any others that offer the same degree of communication! Good on you bowls wellington!

    2. Would Jack be able to answer why when I go to google "mates in bowls wellington" it takes me to the Bowls Wellington website ( Good start ) click on mates in bowls and the response is This site cannot be reached.

    3. Hi anonymous. Yes we can explain that. Obviously you do not understand the workings or methods of Google.
When you google Mates in Bowls, it may bring up an old link for mates in bowls that was on our site. Unfortunately google can not differentiate between new/old/working and not working links. If you had followed Mates in Bowls progress at all, you would be aware that the whole structure has changed. For more information, you should contact the organisers of Mates in Bowls...Bowls NZ and put the question(s) you have to them. In future for questions such as this, it would make more sense to contact us directly!

  2. i'm in agreeance with jack, some of the websites haven't been updated for months, years in some cases. has nothing to do with getting paid or not, if you volunteer to look after a website then do it. first people to take offense are usually the guilty.

  3. To the Bowler who left us a comment asking for the dates for the upcoming season so they can plan their "Summer Vacation", please contact the centre (04) 560 0385 and leave your details, or email mark.reid@bowlswellington.com and we will gladly assist. :)

    Cheers.

  5. Clubs should be utilising a Facebook page also, it is a great way to keep your members informed of what is going on, results and achievements of other club members.

Some might argue that with older members they may not have a Facebook page, if that is the case then maybe the younger members can show them how to set one up so they can keep up with whats happening at their clubs. No excuses, we have an older life member of our club who regularly comments on our Facebook page.

Have a look at the Stokes Valley or Victoria Bowling Clubs FB pages to see what the possibilities are.
