You can Lead a Horse to Water but.....

Jack has been looking around websites lately such as Bowls Wellington, Bowls NZ, Sports NZ, Sports Wellington etc etc and the first thing that comes to mind is "Why are Club's failing"?

Jack sees tools and resources of every description all over these websites and yet.....Club's are still failing.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY?

Well Jack reckons its simple.....PEOPLE! It's like the old saying that I'm sure you have heard...."You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink". The same applies with a lot of Bowling Clubs.

YOU CAN MAKE AVAILABLE ALL THE TOOLS & RESOURCES IN EXISTENCE BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE CLUBS USE THEM!

Did anyone take up RAYMOND MARTIN on his kind offer of helping out? To the best of my knowledge not a single request. In which case I'm sure Raymond will be expecting to see plenty of large events rocking the Wellington Centre this season? Jack will also be keeping an eye out. Don't hold your breath Raymond! What stops clubs from taking up offers from members like Raymond? PRIDE......?

Jack has seen a lot of the attitude of ".....we tried that and if we can't make it work then you never will" floating around.
Just because you tried and failed does not mean the next person will fail.......if that was the case we wouldn't have air travel, cell phones, cars or the lawn bowls we roll up with everyday.

PRIDE, SHORT SIGHTED, STUBBORN, RESISTANCE TO CHANGE

They all play their part in the failing of clubs.

How about checking out the above mentioned sights and seeing what is on offer that may help your club. Jack reckons Bowls Wellington is more than happy to point you in the right direction should you require assistance. Take the leap!

  1. We have used several of the resources available on the Bowls New Zealand site, came in handy. I recommend other clubs do the same.

  2. I have to agree with Mr. Bias on this one.

  3. Jack is right, pride is definitely a downfall in most clubs. Our club had a couple of good workers but they left after being criticised for so long about everything they did. And then there was a lot of promises from other members that they were going to to this and do that but they did nothing. I reckon some members were offended that these other two showed them up by getting stuck in and making an improvement and when push came to shove the other members couldn't match their efforts. Talk achieves nothing, effort is what counts.
